A Unique Fit for Your Unique Eyes
Many people find fitting standard contact lenses challenging. A high prescription, irregular eye shape, or eye condition can make contacts uncomfortable or limit vision correction. Custom, specialty contact lenses can help patients achieve a more accurate fit and improved visual experience.
The base curve, diameter, and even the concentric ring pattern are designed for you. We use corneal topography to assess eye health and take custom measurements. After trying your initial pair, we can modify the fit so you can feel confident and comfortable with your prescription lenses.
If you’re interested in trying contact lenses again, book an appointment with us to discuss your vision needs with Dr. Simms.

Custom Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses are often considered more comfortable and easier to adapt to than rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses. Yet, soft contacts can be limited in providing sharper vision for people with irregular eye shapes or high prescriptions.
Custom soft contact lenses can improve vision for those with certain conditions or vision needs. Corneal topography can help us accurately capture details of your eyes’ surface, including any uneven curves, scars, or growths. Then, the lens is manufactured to fit your eye measurements, including curvature, diameter, and pupil size.
Our Specialty Contact Lens Options
Specialty contact lenses come in a wide variety and tackle different vision problems and eye conditions that need a special touch. Certain lenses, such as aspheric, toric, and hybrid lenses, can assist those with astigmatism, for example, while multifocal lenses are great for individuals with presbyopia or children undergoing myopia management.
Whether you’re interested in exploring a particular style, like ortho-k lenses for overnight vision correction, or you’d like to discuss a particular concern to learn which style might suit your needs, Dr. Simms is here to assist. Following a thorough contact lens exam, she’ll discuss different contact lens options and provide her recommendations to provide you with clear, comfortable vision.
RGP lenses are made of a firm, durable material that is oxygen-permeable to allow your eyes to “breathe” while wearing your contact lenses.
Unlike soft contact lenses, RGP lenses hold their shape, requiring a careful fitting process for comfort. They often offer sharper vision compared to soft contacts, particularly for individuals with higher or more complex prescriptions.
RGP lenses are ideal for individuals who like wearing contact lenses most days, and prefer the longevity of these lenses. Soft contacts are better for occasional wear and may be easier to adjust to for first time contact lens wearers. We can offer various specialty options, such as multifocal and toric lenses in both RGP and soft materials.
A multifocal lens has multiple prescription powers for improving vision at multiple distances. They can be advantageous for individuals with myopia and presbyopia, or age-related farsightedness, which affects both near and far vision.
Multifocal contact lenses are designed with a concentric ring pattern, like a bullseye, with near distance correction in the middle and an outer ring for far distance. The position mimics how we naturally see, with our pupil widening for distance vision and narrowing for close vision.
Toric lenses have unique features for patients with astigmatism, which can affect near and far vision. Astigmatism can cause an uneven tissue surface that can also make fitting a contact lens more challenging. If the lens shifts or moves, it can significantly impact vision correction.
Toric lenses help eliminate the visual distortions caused by accidental shifts or movement. Weighted zones help prevent rotation so the lens maintains its position even when you blink.
Toric lenses have 2 focal powers to help refocus light for both near and far vision. They are available as soft or RGP contact lenses, though soft lenses are more common.
Hybrid lenses combine the comfort of a soft contact lens with the clarity and oxygen-permeability of an RGP lens. They have a rigid center for sharp, crisp vision and a soft, silicone hydrogel “skirt” that sits on the surface of the eye.
Hybrid lenses are a good option for those looking for the comfortable fit of a soft lens but needing sharper vision. They allow for better oxygen flow to the eye compared to standard soft lenses, which can reduce the risk of dry eyes.
Individuals with astigmatism, corneal irregularities (including keratoconus), and presbyopia may benefit from hybrid lenses.
Myopia management contact lenses use a multifocal design to impact how light is focused on the retina (the back of the eye).
Myopia management lenses refocus central vision to land directly on the retina for clear vision and peripheral vision to land in front of the retina (rather than behind it, like single-vision lenses). This signals to the eye to stop growing, slowing the progression of myopia.
Many children can adjust to the lenses with the flexible lens material and convenient daily disposable design.
Orthokeratology or ortho-k uses custom-fitted, highly oxygen-permeable contact lenses for overnight vision correction. The lenses gently flatten and contour the cornea (clear front of the eye) to improve how light focuses inside the eye.
When the lenses are removed in the morning, the cornea retains the new shape throughout the day. The improved shape helps focus light correctly on the retina (light-detecting tissue at the back of the eye) for clearer distance vision.
Both adults and children can be fitted for ortho-k lenses. These lenses can also be used in a myopia management plan for children.
Scleral contact lenses feature a larger diameter designed to vault over the cornea and fit on the sclera (the white of the eye). The lens creates a regular surface shape, which is essential for people with an irregular cornea shape. The result is clear, distortion-free vision.
The lens is a type of RGP contact lens. The materials allow oxygen to pass through the eye. Scleral lenses can also be a great option for individuals with severe dry eye, as they protect the eye surface from evaporation and provide a fluid reservoir to nourish the eye throughout the day.
Your eyes work hard during physical activities, whether you’re on a casual afternoon run or playing an intense game of tennis. With Altius sport lenses, you can experience comfortable vision with enhanced contrast and reduced glare.
Altius sport lenses protect against 100% of UV rays and over 99% of blue light. These filters keep your vision sharp whether indoors or outdoors, and can also be a supportive option for people with concussions, migraines, or light sensitivity. Our team can help you determine if the Altius lens is the right choice for your needs.
How Custom Multifocal Lenses Work
Multifocal contact lenses include multiple prescription powers to correct vision at near, intermediate, and far distances. They are designed with a concentric ring pattern, like a bullseye, with near distance correction in the middle and an outer ring for far distance.
Custom multifocal lenses from Urban Optique & Eyecare use precise measurements to design the concentric rings to your exact measurements.
Pupil size in adults is generally 2–4 mm when narrow (and in bright light) and 4–8 mm when expanded (or in the dark). The size and position of your pupil within the lens can impact the clarity of your vision. Therefore, we take individual measurements, manufacturing your lenses with the pupil centered for optimal vision.
How Scleral Lenses Work
Scleral lenses sit on the white part of the eye (the sclera), and vault over the cornea without touching it. This means they have a much wider diameter than other styles of contact lenses.
Scleral lenses offer 3 critical benefits:
- A fluid reservoir inside the lens helps keep the eye moist, comfortable, and healthy.
- The smooth ocular surface provides clear, crisp vision for people who are a poor fit for standard contacts.
- The customized lenses fit beneath the eyelids and rest on the sclera, offering improved comfort and stability.
We use computer-based topography to capture individual eye measurements and manufacture your lenses. As a result, your scleral lenses fit you accurately. The fit can help restore vision for people with irregular corneas and conditions such as dry eye, corneal epithelial defects, high astigmatism, keratoconus, and post-LASIK or RK ectasias.
How to Insert and Remove Scleral Lenses
With a unique design comes a slightly different method for caring for, inserting, and removing scleral lenses. When you receive scleral lenses from us, we’ll teach you how to insert and remove the lenses.
Here’s what you can expect:
Blocking Blue and UV Light
When you wear lenses every day, your contacts should keep up with your lifestyle. Lens features can help you transition smoothly from indoor to outdoor environments, so you experience comfortable vision with changing lighting.
In addition to blocking UV light from the sun, your contact lenses can protect your eyes from blue light, emitted by phones, computers, tablets, or TVs. Blue light can contribute to digital eye strain and impact sleep quality.
At Urban Optique & Eyecare, we are committed to providing an exceptional eye care experience. Whether you need specialty lenses or standard lenses with specialty features, we can help. Visit us today to get started with a customized fit.
